Searching for the city’s soul

A history of urban planning in Helsinki

Suomenlinnakeskus Visitor Centre 26 March-15 August 2012
Helsinki libraries, autumn 2012

The exhibition provides visitors with an insight into how the city of Helsinki came to find its current shape, charting its history from its founding to present day. Also included are the stories of Helsinki’s many suburbs such as Herttoniemi, Pihlajamäki, Pasila, Itäkeskus, Viikki, Vuosaari and Arabianranta.

This touring exhibition curated by the City Planning Department is based on Kaupunkisuunnitelun vuosisadat (A history of urban planning in Helsinki) by Pertti Mustonen, published in February 2011.
