Dancing capital
Stoa – the Cultural Centre of Eastern Helsinki
Seurasaaren Kansantanssijat folk dancing group
A folk dance performance to mark Helsinki’s 200 years as capital city. Through the medium of dance, the performers narrate extracts from the city’s history, ranging from 18th century assemblée balls to 19th century salons and the rapidly changing popular dances of the early 20th century. The story is brought to life using art and historic photographs from the Helsinki City Museum collection.
Choreographer and director Varpu Heinonen, narrator and producer Jere Jäppinen.
