1975

Helsinki hosts the conference of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).

The spirit of Helsinki

With the exceptions of Albania and Andorra, leaders of all the European States, along with the heads of State of Canada and the United States, convened in Finlandiatalo for the conference, which was chaired by President Urho Kekkonen.

At the close of the conference on 1 August 1975, the 35 participants signed the Helsinki Accords, which laid the foundations for momentous changes in Europe.
